Voices from the Ground

Voices from the Ground is a social impact storytelling program dedicated to capturing authentic grassroots narratives that drive policy awareness, community empowerment and sustainable development.

The program amplifies unheard voices – from rural communities, marginalized groups, frontline workers, climate defenders, youth leadersand local change-makers; and connect them to global audiences, institutionsand decision-makers.We believe that sustainable change begins at the ground level.

Voices from the Ground is based on 6-stagedground-to-global impact model.

Stage 1: Ground Insight (Baseline Study)
  • Conduct initial research to understand the community context, needs and priorities.
  • Use methods such as interviews, surveys and field observations.
  • Map key stakeholders, local challenges and opportunities.
  • This phase establishes a baseline for measuring impact later.

Principle: We listen first. We film later.

Stage 2: Community Co-Creation (Identifying Stories)
  • Work with community members, not just about them.
  • Facilitate workshops or discussions to identify meaningful local stories.
  • Ensure representation of diverse voices (women, youth and marginalized groups).
  • Communities help shape the narrative focus and themes.

Principle: Nothing about them without them.

Stage 3: Story Development (Production)
  • Produce stories using formats such as short films, documentaries, podcasts or photo essays.
  • Train or involve community members in storytelling and media production when possible.
  • Maintain ethical storytelling practices and accurate representation.

Principle: Dignity-driven storytelling.

Stage 4: Local Dialogue (Community Screening)
  • Share the stories within the community first through screenings or listening sessions.
  • Facilitate dialogues and reflection around the issues presented.
  • Encourage feedback and community-led discussion about solutions and actions.

Principle: The first audience is the community itself.

Stage 5: Global Amplification (Strategic Outreach)
  • Disseminate the stories through media platforms, digital campaigns, partnerships, workshops and festivals.
  • Engage policy makers, researchers, NGOs and global audiences.
  • Use storytelling to bring local voices into international conversations.

Principle: Stories travel. Impact expands.

Stage 6: Knowledge Impact (Research Outputs)
  • Translate insights from stories and community discussions into research reports, policy briefs and academic publications.
  • Document lessons learned and evidence of social impact.
  • Share findings with stakeholders to influence policy, practice, and future programs.

Principle: Stories inform systems.
