Hatching Hopes India (HHI) is an integrated nutrition and livelihood program designed to address poverty, malnutrition, and livelihood insecurity in tribal and vulnerable communities of Mayurbhanj district, Odisha. The program leverages backyard poultry as a sustainable solution to improve household nutrition and create income-generating opportunities for women. By introducing poultry farming to households not previously part of the poultry value chain, the initiative aims to increase access to protein-rich foods such as eggs and meat, particularly for young children and women of reproductive age.

The program adopts a multi-faceted SBCC approach suited for low-literacy, Santhali-speaking tribal communities. ZMQ combines digital storytelling, role-play based talking comics, mobile-based training, IoT-enabled communication tools, and mass media outreach to drive behavior change. Localized YST-based digital stories, mobile mTraining toolkits, IEC materials, and MIRA Theatre (solar-powered community cinema) are used to ensure message retention and cultural relevance. Digital and non-digital tools are deployed through door-to-door outreach, SHG sessions, health centers, village fairs, markets, and high-footfall locations. A real-time monitoring and evaluation platform tracks progress and campaign effectiveness. The program is supported by Cargill and Heifer International and aligns with existing government and NGO initiatives.
